REDCap and REDCap Survey
How REDCap and REDCap Survey and the REDCap consortium can support your research studies.
REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure, web-based application designed to support data capture for research studies by building and managing online surveys and databases.
REDCap's streamlined process helps to rapidly develop projects, using 1) the online method from a web browser using the Online Designer; and/or 2) the offline method by constructing a 'data dictionary' template file in Microsoft Excel, which can be later uploaded into REDCap.
Both surveys and databases (or a mixture of the two) can be built using these methods. REDCap also provides audit trails for tracking data manipulation and user activity, as well as automated export procedures for seamless data downloads to Excel, PDF, and common statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, Stata, R).
REDCap also includes a built-in project calendar, a scheduling module, ad hoc reporting tools, and advanced features, such as branching logic, file uploading, and calculated fields.
The REDCap Survey feature is a powerful tool for creating and managing surveys in your web browser. This feature allows you to collect responses from survey participants by 1) sending a link to your survey via email, 2) entering data manually, and/or 3) posting a link on your website.
REDCap Survey also gives you the option to keep your participant responses anonymous, or track and identify responses by building an email contact list.
The REDCap Consortium is comprised of 312 active institutional partners from CTSA, GCRC, RCMI and other institutions, and it supports a secure web application (REDCap) designed exclusively to support data capture for research studies. The application allows users to build and manage online surveys and databases quickly and securely, and is currently in production use or development build-status for more than 27,240 projects with over 38,500 users spanning numerous research focus areas across the consortium.
